Recognizing the critical challenges physicians face as they transition from fellowship to independent practice, APPD has collaborated with the American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine (ASRA Pain Medicine) and the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) to develop the Pain Medicine Innovation & Leadership Certificate.
Designed specifically for early-career pain specialists, this yearlong program offers a comprehensive educational toolkit that includes both clinical and practice management content. Through live and on-demand sessions, mentorship, and access to advanced procedural workshops, the program aims to strengthen participants’ confidence and competence as they begin their careers in pain medicine.
“Fellowship training provides a strong foundation, but the first few years of independent practice present unique challenges,” said Steven P. Cohen, MD, president of ASRA Pain Medicine. “This certificate program helps bridge that gap by offering practical, real-world insights and expert mentorship from leaders in the field.”
Key program features include:
- Live and asynchronous didactics on essential clinical topics and practice management strategies
- Advanced procedure workshops at ASRA Pain Medicine (with options for pre-approved alternatives)
- Mentorship opportunities through ASRA Pain Medicine’s Regional Anesthesia and Multidisciplinary Pain (RAMP) groups
- CME credit and a certificate of completion recognizing mastery of core competencies
The certificate is open to U.S. and international physicians, and participants can earn up to 20 CME credits upon successful completion of the program.
Enrollment is open through August 31, 2025. For more information or to register, visit the ASRA Pain Medicine website. Check out FAQs here.
