The Association of Pain Program Directors (APPD) has four committees in which active members can participate. The APPD Committees provide an opportunity for members to contribute to the development and implementation of new programs and services. Members are invited to complete the application process each year.
To serve on an APPD Committee, you must be an active member of APPD in good standing. Committees are comprised of the following positions:
- Chair: Current or former APPD Board member
- Members-at-Large: One pain faculty member; two to three trainee members
All committee terms are two years unless otherwise noted in the committee description. Committee terms will begin at the end of the annual meeting held in conjunction with ASRA Pain Medicine’s Pain Medicine meeting.
Self-nominations are permitted.

Research Committee
The duties of this committee are to:
- Develop/identify ideas for manuscript submissions
- Can include opinion, perspective, and review pieces
- Identify contributors
- Identify appropriate journal for submission
- Manuscript writing in collaboration with the Educational Committee
- Manuscript submission
- Identify funds for publication fees (via APPD or outside APPD; this may be done before manuscript(s) are planned)
Conference Planning Committee
The duties of this committee are to:
- Identify educational topics for presentation
- Select presenters for presentation
- Submit podium presentation
- Determine conference travel (if reimbursed through APPD permission must be granted by APPD Board)
- Plan presentations and arrange podium lecture
- Assist with educational website content (identify educational topics for publishing on website)
Membership Committee
The duties of this committee are to:
- Track members
- Engage lapsed members
- Arrange website updates on APPD website
- Help develop website content for trainees and faculty
- Connect APPD website with social media platforms
Education Committee
The duties of this committee are to:
- Identify topics for webinars/Hot Topics
- Review educational proposals for possible APPD website integration
- Identify educational content for the APPD website
- Manuscript writing as directed by the Research Committee
- Develop an educational curriculum for the website
